There is so much to see and do when staying at Whalley Farm in the Cotswolds

There are many opportunities on offer from your stay at Whalley Farm. Stay close to the farmhouse and while away many hours of walking, rambling or gentle strolls. In Spring and early Summer, our own woods give you the opportunity to walk through a sea of bluebells, wild garlic and wild flowers with a stream meandering quietly through to a background of birdsong. You may even spot a deer or two through here too. The surrounding fields have public right of way signs sending you in many directions to explore, take photographs, spot the birds and animals and chat with local horse-riders.

Cleeve Hill looks down on Cheltenham and far beyond providing you with an excuse to stop and rest, taking in the various sights of Gloucestershire. On a clear day you can see the Malvern Hills, Welsh Mountains and the Severn Bridge.

The Cotswold Way passes virtually on our doorstep and is popular with visitors and locals alike.

The Cotswold Way passes virtually on our doorstep and is as popular with visitors as it is with the locals, stretching between Bath and Chipping Campden, just down the road.

The lanes surrounding us is a cyclists paradise and even the steep hills up to Whittington from Cheltenham do not deter cyclists, professional or not, from passing through Whittington and disappearing into the scenic countryside. You can explore a wealth of the Cotswolds from Whalley Farm Bed and Breakfast whether on two feet or two wheels. If your preference is for four legs, there are riding opportunities close by too including escorted horse-riding at Ullenwood Court Riding Centre at Ullenwood or Woodlands Riding Stables near Winchcombe.

If you want to go further afield and you enjoy visiting gardens you can try Hidcote Manor Garden with its' 'Garden of Rooms' displaying unusual exotic plants in Chipping Campden; Stanway Hall at Stanway has a Jacobean Manor House in the grounds surrounded by an 18th century water garden which is home to the highest fountain in this Country at 300ft; Bourton House Garden provides a lovely display of topiary, herbaceous borders and natural springs at Moreton-in-Marsh where you will also discover Batsford Arboretum and Mill Dene Gardens.

A horse in Whittington
All manner of animals and wildlife can be seen locally. You might spot a deer in the woods whilst a family of buzzards swoop overhead.

Also at Moreton-in-the Marsh is an Aviation and Art Museum and if you like to discover unusual museums then Winchcombe can offer you a Folk and Police Museum. Just a quarter of a mile from Winchcombe is Sudeley Castle and here you can explore the many rooms open to the public as well as the grounds.

Broadway Tower is situated at Middle Hay, Broadway. Designed by Capability Brown and the architect James Wyatt it was completed in 1798 and provides the second highest point in the Cotswolds at 1024ft above sea level. The views from the top are truly amazing - on a clear day!

You may have read of the historic find of Roman Villas in our grounds and if you wish to explore the Roman history further you will find Chedworth Roman Villa at Yanworth of great interest. One of the largest Villas in the Country it came into the hands of The National Trust in 1924, previously being owned by the Earl of Elden who covered the costs of all excavations which range from mosaics to a latrine. Beginning in 1864 excavations at this site continued until 1965 so there is much to see.

View of Cheltenham
From a viewpoint on the edge of the farm, the view across Cheltenham and beyond is spectacular. In this picture, May Hill can be seen some 22 miles away as the crow flies.
There is far too much to mention within easy reach of our farmhouse including the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway; take in a round or so at the Cotswold Hills Golf Course at Ullenwood and Shipton Golf Course at Shipton Oliffe; explore Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park; soak in the glorious sight of the lavender at Snowshill; experience a driving lesson with a difference at Prestcott Hill Climb at Gotherington or simply explore the historic market towns of Northleach, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold amongst many, many others.
