Updated February 2nd 2012
Here we are in February already, and the festivities of Christmas seem just a distant memory now. The weather in Whittington over the past few days has been glorious - a bitterly cold easterly wind but with clear blue skies and bright sunshine.
Walking around Whittington village and the farm, there are clumps of pretty snowdrops on the verges and in the gardens and fields. The green shoots of the daffodil and tulip bulbs are beginning to poke through the soil. I know that we are in the middle of Winter still (particularly with a dusting of snow forecast for this weekend) but there are definite signs of Spring in the air.

The other feeling of excitement in Cheltenham and the Cotswolds is The Festival which at the time of writing is just 40 days and 1 hours away! For many people who come racing at Cheltenham, The Festival is 'the place to be' in March of each year. Many guests who stay with us say they feel like small children in the build-up to Christmas.
The Cheltenham Festival is probably our favourite event of the year, with Cheltenham and the Cotswolds taking on a truly fantastic atmosphere for the week. It isn’t just visitors crossing the Irish Sea – we get visitors from all over the UK and even Europe. Unfortunately, we are fully booked for Cheltenham Race Week, and do not know of any other hotels or bed and breakfasts locally with vacancies. In previous years, visitors have tended to stay in Bristol or Birmingham and get the train in each day to go racing
We get a lot of guests staying with us who are here in Cheltenham and the Cotswolds to go racing. We had some great visitors stay with us during The Festivals Trial Day meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse last weekend. I hope everyone who stayed with us was lucky and managed to pick a few winners.
With regard to other popular events in Cheltenham, we now have a long gap until the next of the 'Four Festivals' in Cheltenham. The Cheltenham Jazz Festival will be running between the 2nd May - 7th May 2012. It seems like a long time away, but if the past year is anything to go on, it will be with us before we know it.
Cheltenham and the Cotswolds are a great place to visit at this time time of year, with many of the local attractions and villages being quiet, compared to peak season. The local traders and businesses would be very pleased to see you. Why not get 2012 off to a great start by staying with us at Whalley Farm.
